Professional Learning
(that teachers actually look forward to)
Every session at The Comprehensible Classroom is practical, activity-driven and immediately usable. No death by PowerPoint. No theory for theory's sake. Teachers leave with strategies they can use the next day.
Sessions are available for individual booking or as a sequenced suite. Delivery options include one-hour tasters, two-hour workshops, half-day and full-day formats, tailored to your school's needs and schedule.
One-Off Sessions
Perfect for a first taste of EPI or a standalone PD day. No commitment required.
What is EPI and why is everyone talking about it?
Everyone is talking about EPI. But what actually is it, and why does it work when so many other approaches have not? This session cuts through the noise and gives you a clear, honest explanation of Extensive Processing Instruction, what it looks like in a real classroom, and why it is changing the way language teachers think about their practice.
Perfect for departments who are curious but not yet sure where to start.
Low and No-Prep EPI Tasks
You have heard about EPI. Now see what it actually looks like when it is working. This session puts you in the room as a learner, working through a bank of practical, low-prep tasks that you can take straight back to your classroom. Running Dictation, Mind Reader, Sentence Stealer, Mini Whiteboards and more. Everything is repeatable, adaptable to any language or level, and genuinely enjoyable to teach.
You will leave with a full activity bank and the confidence to use it tomorrow.

MARSEARS: What It Is and How to Use It
You have heard the acronym. You might even know what the letters stand for. But what does MARSEARS actually look like in a real classroom, and how do you use it to plan a lesson that genuinely builds language over time?
This session unpacks the full sequence, shows each stage in action and gives you a practical planning framework you can take back to your department and use straight away. No jargon. No theory for theory's sake. Just a clear map for taking language from first exposure all the way to spontaneous use.
MARSEARS was developed by Dr Gianfranco Conti and is the sequencing framework at the heart of EPI pedagogy.
The EPI Course: Six Lessons in EPI and MARSEARS
A structured, sequenced program that takes teachers from first principles all the way to confident, sustainable EPI implementation. Each lesson builds on the last and includes reading content, processing tasks, quizzes and retrieval activities.
Lesson 1:
What is EPI Really?
The core idea, why it matters, and how it differs from traditional language teaching. Input before output. Processing before production. By the end of this lesson teachers can explain EPI clearly to a colleague and understand why the approach works where others have not.
Lesson 2:
Why EPI Works
The science made simple. How repeated, meaningful exposure moves language from working memory into long-term memory, and why most classrooms accidentally work against this. By the end of this lesson teachers understand the cognitive case for EPI and can use it to evaluate their own current practice.
Lesson 3:
What Makes a Task EPI?
Not all tasks are created equal. This lesson gives teachers a clear framework for evaluating and designing tasks that actually work. By the end of this lesson teachers can look at any classroom activity and confidently say whether it is EPI-aligned and why.
Lesson 4:
What an EPI Lesson Looks Like
From theory to practice. Teachers see a real lesson structure in action and understand how to build their own. By the end of this lesson teachers can plan a complete EPI lesson from scratch.
Lesson 5:
Planning and Sequencing
How to limit language, build familiarity, increase thinking gradually and revisit content over time. The planning principles that make EPI sustainable. By the end of this lesson teachers have a reusable planning framework they can apply to any unit, any language, any level.
Lesson 6:
EPI and MARSEARS: How It All Fits Together
EPI explains how students learn language. MARSEARS explains how to sequence that learning over time. This final lesson brings everything together and gives teachers a complete picture. By the end of this course teachers understand not just what EPI is but how to implement it deliberately, sustainably and with confidence across their whole program.
